Beauty Tips

-Esther Nancy Ramirez

“He has made everything beautiful in its time” Ecclesiastes 3:11

Have you ever thought about how beautiful we must seem to God, that He wants to mold us to look more like Him and less like this world?  In Galatians 5:22-23, scripture refers to the Fruits of the Spirit which are nine (9) character traits or qualities that He designed to make us reflect His beauty. These nine beauty tips are:

 1.   Love

2.   Joy

3.   Peace

4.   Patience

5.   Kindness

6.   Goodness

7.   Faithfulness

8.   Gentleness

9.   Self-Control

It seems like a long exhausting list doesn’t it?  It’s not easy, but I do have a little experience with a few of these fruits. Recently, on a business trip in Europe I lost my purse. No purse. No money. No passport. Nothing. I was in another country where I didn’t speak the language. I was on day 3 of a 10 day trip, when I felt my life slowly feel like it was crumbling. I could have freaked out. However, this time, this trial was different. I stopped and prayed for peace and recited Matthew 6:26, the verse that always reminds me of God’s unfailing love.

I collected myself, took a 30 minute break from my meetings and went back to my hotel and prayed. I also called my sisters back in the U.S. and asked for prayer. I went back to work trusting in God that he’d return my belongings. Six long, unsettling hours later, my purse turned up with all my credit cards and money intact. What held me together? Patience, Faith and Self-control. Was it easy to do? Absolutely not! However, each trial allows us to choose Christ over our circumstance and our emotions – we are blessed with having the choice to have our Almighty, All Sufficient, All Powerful God shield us during our hardships!

Ladies, imagine if in the eye of every life hurricane we face, we could maintain our composure? It is so important to embrace these nine (9) character traits and really hold fast to them in our times of trial. The Fruits of the Spirit are not easy to develop. It can be a painful, frustrating process; however, James 1:2-4 gives us a little pep talk when facing these spiritual growing pains. “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” These growing pains are designed to make us both spiritually stronger and radiate the beauty of God through our character.

Think about it, as women we multi-task. In a hectic world where we play so many different roles and demands are placed upon us, these nine character traits will ground us and keep our sanity intact. Life’s curve balls will shake us, but not break us. Life and our emotions do not get the best of us, and we have victory over our flesh through the self-control that can only be found in God. When we embrace these spiritual fruits, we are promised by God to be made complete and lack in nothing as we weather our storms.

Luckily for us, we don’t have to work towards developing these qualities in one week, in one month or even in one year. We are awarded an entire lifetime to develop these character traits.  A lifetime to put them into practice and live them out. When we react to life in accordance to these fruits — that is God working in you and making you beautiful from the inside out.  Ladies, let us practice these nine beauty tips as much as possible, in all circumstances. Embrace the fruits, live them out, and before you realize it, your character and your life will reflect God’s beauty — you can and will bear His beauty!

Today, my prayer for all of us is to embrace these fruits and write them upon our hearts.

Father, today I give you thanks for providing me the armor to face the battles that life will bring me. I find comfort in knowing that you designed these traits with a purpose, to keep in me perfect peace with you, with my faith and trust firmly planted in you. As I develop each of these traits, I know it may feel like I am being stretched beyond my own capacity and I ask that in those moments, may my flesh remember to possess a gentle, quiet and trusting spirit. May my spirit and my flesh find contentment in the pruning of my character, because this is how you are shaping me into your image. Father, remind me in those moments that these fruits of the Spirit will allow the world to see YOU radiate through me, so that through my life your name can be glorified. Thank you for these beautiful gifts and thank you for adorning me with a righteous and godly character, in Jesus name. Amen!
