The Party is Over but the Battle has Begun

Moments after the large crowd that gathered to celebrate our church launch vanished, I was struck with a great reality as I watched pastor Fabi pop our celebration balloons with enthusiasm.  At that moment I was happy to whisper a short prayer to Jesus: “lets get to work”.

The only way I can relate to the celebration that took place just a few days ago on January 16th, 2011, is by comparing it to my wedding day. It was fantastic, fun, and exciting!  We appreciate the family and friends who gathered with us for the beginning of this journey, but the most important journey doesn’t end on the wedding day it begins. I’ve said this often: “There’s a marriage after the wedding” and I say this now, there’s work after the launch.

I want to take a moment to warn all the Christians that are a part of CityLights Church.  We can be so tempted to slip into vacation mode and think the work is behind us; please with all respect, do not be fooled.  Rest is in order, however, now more than ever we need to be vigilant in our prayers and aggressive with our faith. After Elijah experienced the great victory of making a spectacle out of Baal (false god) and his prophets, he found himself retreating and hiding in a cave. This warning isn’t to scare you, but to ensure that we as a church remain alert and on the offence.  Throughout the years I’ve noticed a trend; after our greatest moments we experience a back lash from the kingdom of darkness.

I have informed Pastor Fabi to heighten our emphasis in prayer and to equip the watchman in spiritual warfare and of this possible resistance.  With that said, please be encouraged by 1Jo 4:4 ESV – “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” and I need not remind you that there is no spirit greater than the Holy Spirit.  My prayer is that as we’re proactive in our prayers that all counter attacks be null and void. Remember, Satan is no competition for Jesus and since we are hid in Christ he isn’t any competition for CityLights.

This is an exciting time here at CityLights and I am thankful that the Lord has appointed you to be a part of this mission.  So, I invite you to roll up your sleeves and partner with Jesus and this community of Faith, Hope, Love and Prayer.  We are Disciples who produce Disciples to touch their world with the love of Jesus.
